World Economic Forum launches center for fourth industrial revolution in Azerbaijan

Baku, Azerbaijan, February 23, 2022 – The Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in partnership with the World Economic Forum, today organized the inaugural launch of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) in Baku, in Azerbaijan. The center is an autonomous, nonprofit organization that is a leader in emerging technology policy and governance.

The launch will involve key national and international stakeholders to discuss the impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things on Azerbaijan’s economy and the importance of multi-stakeholder cooperation in the technological governance.

Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, said that one of their goals is to strengthen the position of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the fourth industrial revolution, which changes the trends of the world economy and the competition rules, and to be among the country leaders in this area.

He continued: In this regard, cooperation with the World Economic Forum and its Fourth Industrial Revolution Network is a successful continuation of efforts in this area. Of particular significance is the launch of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Azerbaijan, which is one of the few corresponding centers in the world.

The Minister noted that within the framework of this cooperation, C4IR Azerbaijan will contribute to the rapid application and mastery of advanced technologies, ensuring their service to citizens and public interest, development of digital economy and improving the field of research and development. in the countryside.

C4IR Azerbaijan is hosted by the Center for Analysis and Coordination of the Fourth Industrial Revolution within the Ministry of Economy of the Government of Azerbaijan. The center’s initiatives aim to coordinate with public and private sector partners and academia to design and test policies, as well as regulatory frameworks. This will help create more opportunities and provide stakeholders with various benefits of key technologies of the fourth industrial revolution and also reduce the associated risks.

“Rapid advances in technology are reshaping industries, challenging existing regulatory frameworks and redefining fundamental aspects of our daily lives. As a member of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution network, Azerbaijan will play a vital role in enabling innovative transformations in a sustainable, resilient and inclusive way,” said Børge Brende, President of the World Economic Forum at the occasion of the launch.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has led to technological breakthroughs in many fields, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, IoT and robotics, 3D printing, nanotechnology and biotechnology, among others.

The forums global network is a multi-stakeholder collaboration platform, bringing together the public and private sectors to maximize the technological benefits for society while minimizing the risks associated with 4IR technologies.
