Toledo-Lucas County Commission on Persons with Disabilities Hosts Voter Forum

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The Toledo-Lucas County Commission on Persons with Disabilities will host a voter forum Sept. 28.

The forum will include local candidates for State House, State Senate and Lucas County Commissioner. The event will take place at 6 p.m. at TARPS, located at 130 Knapp, Toledo. Representatives from three countywide issues on the ballot — the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, Imagination Station and Metroparks — will also be present.

“Persons with disabilities constitute one of the most important voting blocs in our community,” said Commission Chair Angie Goodnight. “And we want to make sure they have the opportunity to meet the candidates and discuss the issues that will come up in the November 8 ballot.”

Additionally, Goodnight said it was important for contestants to consider people with disabilities.

“The big question of the evening will be: how will a vote for you or your organization benefit people with disabilities? Some of the big issues facing the disability community include transportation, accessibility, employment and social opportunity,” she said.

The Voters’ Forum will be streamed live on the Skills Center Facebook page. The event is sponsored by the Ability Center of Greater Toledo and the Maumee Valley Chapter Partners for Inclusion.

“We’ve been holding these forums on an annual basis for over ten years,” Goodnight said. “They have been well attended and have proven to be a great asset to the disability community.”.
