Fascist Christians
The author of the Sept. 1 “Bring it on” letter uses the term “fascist Christian nationalism,” which I believe is a term that only applies to a relatively small number of misguided Christians. In other words, I don’t think there are many true fascist Christians.
One thing to consider is that there is good reason to believe that not everyone who calls themselves a Christian is a genuine Christian and that not all organizations that present themselves as Christian organizations are actually Christian organizations. authentic.
Perhaps the best way to determine authentic Christianity is whether or not people and the organizations they belong to try to follow New Testament principles that are based on selfless love for all. True Christians and the Christian organizations to which they belong seek to do what is best for others, as well as for themselves. And, if they fail to do so, mature Christians will repent of their sins and confess them to God according to 1 John 1:9.

In contrast, spiritually immature Christians are more likely to engage in activities that do not conform to Christian principles of behavior set forth in the New Testament. As a result, these Christians can do things that the Bible does not condone, such as supporting extreme fascist organizations. But the actions of these relatively few people should not bring condemnation from the many Christians who do not support fascism.
All weddings
Eighteen months ago, my partner Brianna May and I made national headlines when a local wedding venue refused to host our wedding ceremony because we were a same-sex couple. Planning a wedding is nerve-wracking enough without having to do it in the media spotlight.
The experience led to an outpouring of support from friends, family members and even strangers. In the months that followed, together we planned a wedding while lobbying state and local lawmakers to advance anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ couples. We didn’t want another couple to have their wishes clouded by discrimination.
Our wedding with family and friends will not take place until October, but today we are legally married. Yet the threats against our union — and thousands of others across the state — remain. The Supreme Court’s recent Dobbs decision included a judge’s advice that the court should reevaluate its 2015 Obergefell decision requiring states to recognize all marriages legally performed out of state.
Congress can prevent that from happening by passing the Respect for Marriage Act, legislation that would formally repeal the outdated and unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act and reaffirm that marriage for same-sex couples is established law. I strongly encourage US Senators from North Carolina, Richard Burr and Thom Tillis, to support this bill and remove any uncertainty for same-sex couples who may see their marriage delegitimized.
“Semi-fascist”
Is President Biden wrong to say that there is a MAGA segment within the Republican Party that is “semi-fascist”?
Merriam-Webster’s definition: a philosophy, movement, or political regime that exalts the nation and often the race above the individual and represents centralized autocratic government led by a dictatorial leader, harsh economic and social regulation, and a forced suppression of the opposition.
It’s the GOP as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis exemplifies, using his office to police the free speech rights of teachers and corporations.
It’s MAGA activists who want to burn and/or ban books on race and LGBTQ topics and prevent Barnes & Noble from selling them.
It is the Republican Party led by an autocratic leader who believes he is above the law.
I think Biden went easy on them.
