Second Forum of Candidates for the GA Thursday | New

The Guam Bar Association is hosting the second Attorney General Candidate Forum next week.

On Thursday, September 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., three candidates vying to be Guam’s next attorney general will participate in a town hall-style forum held at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa.

Participants include incumbent Attorney General Leevin Camacho, former Attorney General Douglas Moylan and new addition Peter Santos, who is campaigning as a write-in candidate.

Guam Bar Association member Joaquin “Jay” Arriola Jr. said the addition of Santos added an extra 30 minutes to the forum. The event will be organized with the help of the School of Business and Public Administration at the University of Guam, which is hosting the main GA candidates’ debate on October 28.

“This is an overview of this (main panel). Questions will be presented by members of the bar and community justice actors such as police support staff involved in the administration of justice” , Arriola said before adding that the issues will range from prosecution to management.

The forum, Arriola said, is important for letting the public learn more about the candidates.

“Letting the public know who the candidates are in this nonpartisan race is very, very important. He is the legal director for the Territory of Guam, he directs legal policy for the government of Guam, and the attorney general is the chief of the forces of the Guam. ‘order, which means he’s the chief prosecutor … and people need to know who these people are,’ he said.

The forum will be broadcast live on social media. Arriola urged the public, especially young voters, to tune into the forum. The public may be able to submit questions to the contestants.

There will be limited seating for the general public with a $20 cash entry fee at the door.
