SEC, CSE and IFC Hold First Investor Forum in Kandy for WIW 2022 – Business

The Sri Lanka Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), in partnership with the Australian Government, organized an Investor Forum in Kandy at the Royal Kandyan Hotel, in part of the series of events to celebrate the sixth World Investor Week (WIW) 2022, launched by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
The forum was organized in line with the objective of the global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of investor education and protection.
The event attracted over 150 attendees, including existing and potential investors.
The forum provided valuable information on investor education and protection.
SEC Director of External Relations and Capital Market Education Tushara Jayaratne provided basic knowledge on investments, investment process, pros and cons of investing in the stock market, while that CSE Kandy Branch Manager, Madhawa Aramandeniya also held a sensitization session on CSE mobile application.
In addition, valuable insights on the importance of financial literacy were presented to the audience by Regional Director of Matale Central Bank, Vineetha Herath, while an analysis of sector performance and market opportunities was presented by the director of research of NDB Securities (Pvt.) Ltd, Niroshan De Silva.
A panel discussion was held with the participation of Jayaratne, De Silva, Niroshan Wijesundere and Herath, providing participants with the opportunity to share their knowledge and be educated on the important aspects of investor education and protection. Towards the end of the forum, participants also had the opportunity to meet investment advisors from stockbroking firms and representatives from mutual fund management companies.
Further investor forums are planned in Galle, Kurunegala, Jaffna and Colombo, in the coming weeks of October and November, with the aim of raising awareness on investor education and protection while highlighting the importance financial literacy.
