Pinduoduo shared her experience in promoting digital agriculture and empowering women and youth at a G20 global forum in Bali, Indonesia, highlighting the importance of having the right mix of technology, talent and training to transform agricultural practices.
Pinduoduo has helped almost a billion consumers discover new agricultural products directly from farmers and cooperatives, who are now able to bypass multiple layers of middlemen to connect and sell directly to the end consumer. More than 16 million farmers have connected to the digital economy through the company’s platform.
Pinduoduo also provides farmers with the right digital skills through online courses to teach them how to start and grow their businesses online. To help less tech-savvy farmers, Pinduoduo has trained over 100,000 “new farmers” to date, encouraging young people to get involved in farming and help their communities.
Many of these young agricultural entrepreneurs have inspired others to follow suit. New businesses are also creating demand for ancillary services such as logistics and packaging, creating employment opportunities for women and less privileged groups in rural areas.
To improve agricultural productivity and increase farm income, Pinduoduo works with top universities around the world to develop practical and cost-effective precision farming technology. The company hosts an annual smart farming competition that brings together top data scientists and agricultural researchers to come together and solve real-world problems facing smallholder farmers.
The Global Forum on Digital Agriculture Transformation to Accelerate Women and Youth Entrepreneurship, organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, preceded the G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting (AMM) on September 27 2022.
Pinduoduo shared its “Tech for Agri” approach to agricultural modernization during the session entitled “Sharing perspectives and current initiatives to increase the participation and capacities of women and youth in the implementation of digital agriculture” .
