PDP’s NEC approves campaign structure as Governors’ Forum declares Tambuwal still president

The National Executive Council of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has approved a unified campaign structure across the country ahead of the 2023 general election.

The NEC also approved the proposed structure and organizational chart of the National Campaign Council and the National Campaign Management Council for the elections.

The party’s national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, revealed this to reporters on Thursday – shortly after the NEC and PDP board meetings.

Mr. Ologunagba, however, remained silent on the leadership positions.

When asked who held what position on the campaign council, he said the National Working Committee (NWC) had been tasked with making the appointments.

He also said the nominations will be made and announced in the coming days.

Also approved are campaign council structures at the state, local government, ward and unit levels.

The NEC, he said, had received and approved the proposed structure for zonal reconciliation committees to be set up to ensure a common front for the party ahead of the general elections.

Mr. Ologunabga also remained silent on speculation surrounding the resignation of Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

“At the moment there is nothing like it,” he said. “If he (Tambuwal) had announced his resignation, we would have made it public and official, but for now there is no such thing.”

However, a statement from the Forum’s Managing Director, CID Maduabum, on Thursday said Mr Tambuwal has not resigned.

Members of the Forum, he said, are working behind the scenes to resolve all disputed issues regarding the party and “to this end, a meeting of the Forum will soon be convened”.

Earlier, BoT chairman Walid Jibrin resigned as BoT chairman. He was immediately replaced by the former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara, who will take over as interim.
