Palisade Hosts Board Forum

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – With three director seats open on the Palisade City Board of Directors for the Palisade mayoral election in April, a candidates’ forum was held Saturday, attended by six of the seven candidates who expressed their vision for the future of Palissade.

A shared sentiment among the candidates is business development and infrastructure improvement.

“One of the first things I would like to do is try to get people here in the winter,” said Alex Sparks, a candidate. “Businesses are hurting, everyone. It’s something we all face the same way and could all benefit from.

Alex Sparks is not from Palisade, but said he wanted to give back to the community he now calls home.

“It gave me a goal. So I traveled a lot across the country. I lived in Kentucky. I lived in New York and Denver. It was a job search, and when I moved here, I realized; I didn’t want to run after a job. I want to find a home, and this is the first place that made me realize that.

Another candidate in the running for a seat on the board of directors is Stan Harbaugh.

“Palisade is a great little town, and I intend to keep it to the best of my abilities,” Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh said he wanted to see the town prosper but didn’t want to lose the small-town feel and character.

“I want to make sure it doesn’t grow recklessly, out of control,” Harbaugh explained. “I don’t want to see the traffic spiral out of control. I don’t want to see tourist traffic spiraling out of control. We need our tourists, but it can get overwhelming unless it grows slowly and our infrastructure grows at the same time.
