MSME Forum Partners with NASRDA to Create Database for Business Growth

The Board of Directors (BOT) of The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Member Organizations in Nigeria, MSME Forum, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Space Research Development Agency (NASRDA), for the provision of a digital solution to speed up operations.

The MoU, among others, aims to create a database on MSMEs in Nigeria to fill the existing data gap, and will contain information such as list and profile of BMOs, MSMEs and others stakeholders for the benefit of users.

The database will also collect, analyze and convert the data into a usable form for planning purposes; capture data from operators in all sectors of the country’s economy, regardless of their location, and further contain this data for a population of MSMEs, which represents nearly 40 million businesses capable of facing a possible increase.

Other opportunities provided by Geoapps will include the following; Create a market component describing MSME products/services, supply/demand dynamics and create a better opportunity to sell, promote and advertise products and services.

It would illustrate different lines of companies in each industry and showcase their value chains/mode of operation, as well as promoting industrial secondment opportunities through which upcoming companies can gain access to larger companies or large corporations for practical work and hands-on learning.

Geoapps will provide information on funding opportunities/types, conditionality and checklist needed for each MSME group/association to access funding, and establish a platform for enhanced ancillary opportunities such as product and quantity .

Further, it would outline areas of support for the MSME sector by development organizations, the private sector and other industry stakeholders, in addition to developing a systematic BMO business report that will transfer and reform the MSME approach to investment initiatives.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Albert Olajide Akinyemi, in a message on the occasion, thanked the leadership of the Research Agency for believing in the agency’s vision for the growth and development of the MSME sector and to be associated with it with the EP.

He said, “I’m not surprised that yours is the first MOU to be signed, being a strategic partner.”

Dr. Akinyemi explained that in his experience as a former leader of the National Association of Small Industrialists (NASI), some companies do not have or keep records of their operations, which has deprived them of any form of support and makes their businesses unattractive to financial institutions.

According to him, the signing of the memorandum of understanding speaks volumes about the quality of the men and women at the helm of the research agency.

Dr. Akinyemi congratulated all members of the technical committee, who participated in drafting the document and worked to make the event a reality.

The BOT Chairman, represented by Forum Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Garba Gusau, hinted that further MoUs will soon be signed with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning.

In response, the Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Halilu Ahmad Shaba, expressed his delight at the event, saying it represents what science and business can achieve if there is cooperation.

He called on all other private and public agencies to collaborate with the agency, adding that if science can’t work for business, science is useless.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of GEOAPPS PLUS Limited, the commercial entity of the Agency which will execute the MoU, Dr Jeb David, assured that he was ready to work with the FORUM in order to provide digital solutions to members under the umbrella body.

Were present on the occasion: Mr. Joseph Attah, President, Technical Inauguration Committee; Dr. Francis Alaneme, Chair, Program and Strategy Subcommittee; Engineer Maryvse Ogba, Chair, Logistics and Protocol Sub-Committee, and Mr. Segun Adeleke, Chair, Media and Publicity Sub-Committee.

The others were: Mr. Taiwo Shobajo, Chairman, Monitoring and Evaluation Sub-Committee, and Ms. Biodun Bukky, Deputy Secretary.
