Matt Smith has “always loved vampires”.
The 39-year-old actor stars as vampire antagonist Milo Morbius in Marvel’s new blockbuster ‘Morbius’ and he admitted the role he was drawn to was big when the project first premiered.
He explained to GamesRadar+: “I was really excited to work with Daniel Espinosa because I had enjoyed his work and thought he was just a fabulous director.
“And I wanted to play a villain in one of those types of movies where – I’ve always loved vampires too, and I’ve been obsessed with the superpower of being able to fly. And I love that it sounds like a domestic story of two brothers, really. All those things really appealed to me.
Much of Matt’s role in the film was kept under wraps, but he had no problem with it due to his past work on “Doctor Who.”
He said: “I’m good at trying to keep the plots and plotlines of Doctor Who under wraps, of course.
“It was quite liberating to do The Crown, actually, because everybody knows everything. Everybody knows the story, that’s why this show is really special, because we know what’s going on. But I didn’t mind keeping it a secret, because I’ve done it before. Mom is the word.
The British star can next be seen on the small screen in the ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off ‘House of the Dragon’, but he has no idea if his character in the series, Daemon Targaryen, shares similarities with Milo.
He said: “The truth is, I don’t know, because I haven’t seen anything from ‘House of the Dragon’.
“And it’s quite difficult to have an opinion on the work that we have done, because it comes and goes without having seen it.”
But deep down, despite the different subjects, Matt doesn’t see much difference with all of his work.
He said: “It all tends to be pretty similar in the end. It’s big sets, big lights and cameras and all that kind of stuff, and a lot of bells and whistles. But at the end of the day, it boils down to two people having a scene trying to tell each other the truth. The essence is the same. But it was exciting to be in a movie of this scale, certainly.”
