Jamie Wei, women’s tennis player, reflects on her NCAA career in the sports forum

PHILADELPHIA CREAM – Temple tennis player Jamie Wei recently traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana as the campus representative at the NCAA Career in Sports Forum.

During the first week of June, the NCAA held its Sports Career Forum. This event is an annual educational program that brings together 200 selected NCAA student-athletes to learn about and explore potential careers in sports, especially varsity athletics. This unique three-day forum helps student-athletes chart their career path. Participants network and learn from current athletic professionals.

Originally from Chaiyi, Taiwan, Wei is the senior of the women’s team and majors in psychology.

“We had amazing speakers who came from all over the country to speak to us, they showed us passion, determination, belief, positivity and vulnerability. It’s truly amazing how nothing is impossible as long as you work hard and wait for the right opportunities,” Wei said. “I had no idea what to expect from this program before I left, but I had one of the most unforgettable experiences, hearing the different perspectives from my fellow student-athletes D1, D2 and D3 is a life changing experience. I grew so much from this event, everyone was so open to listen, learn, share, it finally brought together a new community, I can’t wait to see what the future holds. I feel immense gratitude to have been selected as one of 200 student-athletes and to have learned a lot from this opportunity.”

Notable speakers covered relevant topics to help prepare attendees to successfully navigate their future. Topics to be covered included self-awareness and its role in professional development; practical approaches to job search in sport; personal branding; develop a career plan; manage you as a sports industry professional. Through panels, engaging small group discussions, keynote presentations and facilitated dialogues, program participants come away from their experience with a deep understanding of athletics as a career path and their place in the athletics landscape. industry.

The forum allows attendees to network with their peers and decision makers at the campus, conference, and national level of college athletics. The content will meet the following program objectives:

• Live tangible experiences that will push the student-athlete forward in their aspiration to a career in sport.
