Guyana seeks to attract other international carriers at travel forum

The government is preparing to encourage more international carriers to explore the Guyanese market.

Currently, there are less than 10 international airlines plying the Guyana route. The Ministry of Tourism hopes that the government’s presence at the World Routes Development Forum in Las Vegas could attract more international carriers to local shores.

A Guyanese delegation is led to the forum by the Minister of Tourism, Oneidge Walrond. The CEO of Cheddi Jagan Airport and the head of the Guyana Tourism Authority are some of the other people who are part of the Guyana delegation.

In a statement released today, Cheddi Jagan Airport management explained that the Global Roads Forum is an annual event that brings together airlines, airports, tourism authorities, tour operators and other key decision makers. of aviation.

He is also dedicated to route development and strategic planning in the aviation industry.

Over the next few days, Minister Walrond and her team are expected to meet several key people in the aeronautical industry with the aim of encouraging investment in the French Guiana destination.

The minister said the forum presented a significant opportunity to bring additional air travel to Guyana, noting that the aim was to market Guyana as a lucrative investment destination.

She believes additional carriers would encourage investment and enable cheaper airfares and increase travel and destination options.

Cheddi Jagan International Airport General Manager Ramesh Ghir said the majority of new airlines entering the Guyana market are the result of negotiations that took place at the Routes forum.

Guyana has signed an open skies policy with a number of countries, but travel between these countries and Guyana has not seen a major increase.
