Javier Basagoiti highlighted Asocimi’s willingness to invest in financial assets and develop the regulations of the Socimis law. Jesus Gonzalez focused on tokenization innovation and BME’s participation in the sandbox with a marketplace for digital assets. To finish, David Calzada highlighted the revolution blockchain can bring to the real estate industry.

The multiple applications of blockchain technology through the creation of a distributed, automated and shared ledger for all participants are the basis of asset tokenization.

Concretely, in the real estate sector, the regulation of the tokenization of real estate investments was non-existent until 2020. Since then, innovative and disruptive European regulatory proposals such as MiCA, which serves as a first step in the regulation of cryptoassets and is pending of approval, have appeared.

Likewise, EU Regulation 2022/858 is already in force, which for three years will serve as a pilot test in which shares, debts and units of undertakings for collective investment can be tokenized and which, if successful , will lay the foundation for a change the market as a whole.

According Marcos Carrera (pictured right), co-director of Grant Thornton’s blockchain and crypto lab, the industry is facing a moment of great opportunity: “We need to seize the moment. Tokenization is not only an alternative way of finding financing, but it is also creating a new digital financial instrument. In our crypto lab, we have been working for seven years and have carried out 27 high-impact projects, both in the field of startups and with corporate fields with ties to 15 countries,” he said.
