Ghana mission returns from successful CEO Forum 2022 in Nigeria

On Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th February 2022, the Ghana Nigeria Business Council led key government promotion organizations including Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Ghana Export Promotion Authority and Ghana Free Zones Authority for a CEO Forum in Lagos and Abuja respectively.

The event titled GIPC/GNBC CEO Forum 2022, themed Ghana and Nigeria Stronger Together, brought together corporate and SME CEOs to learn more about the business and investment opportunities available in the Ghana, as well as the procedures, fees and licenses needed to operate a business in Ghana. .

The event was opened by the Ghana High Commission in Nigeria with messages of support from the Lagos and Abuja Chamber of Commerce, ECOWAS, Nigeria Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Investment Promotion Board of Nigeria, from the Export Promotion Authority of Nigeria, with a close from the council’s sister organization Nigeria The Ghana Business Council emphasizes and stresses the importance of the centuries-old relationship, brotherhood and strength of Ghana and the Nigeria as the two strongest economies in West Africa as well as being the most influential countries in the world.

The forum showed the appetite of Nigerians to enter Ghana through collaborative partnerships across all sectors.

The CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Dr. Afua Asabea Asare highlighted 17 key areas that Ghana needs to meet production capacity that Nigerians can work with their Ghanaian counterparts to meet quotas and international requirements.

Ambassador Michael Aaron Oquaye Jnr, CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, showed great enthusiasm for Nigerians to seize the available opportunities while highlighting key free zone areas.

He stressed the importance of key government officials being present at the next meeting to discuss the bottlenecks that are slowing down and/or preventing Nigerians from doing business in Ghana.

Providing highlights on investment opportunities, pricing and case studies of successful Nigerian companies currently operating in Ghana, the Director of Investor Relations, Mr. Edward Ashong-Lartey, informed delegates that Ghana is currently in the process of reviewing its registration fees while communicating progress in resolving the situation of Nigerian traders which is currently exceptional.

The event ended with one of the main sponsors, the general counsel of Nartey law firm, Mr. William Nartey, who made a short presentation on the importance of bringing SMEs as they are the main drivers of the two economies, in addition to encouraging capitalization not to be a barrier to entry. , ‘…We should instead let it lend itself to exploring opportunities for collaboration through the creation of legal entities and well-structured partnerships.

Mr Nartey went on to say that “risk is best managed when it is shared”.

Ghana Nigeria Business Council Executive Secretary Ms Nadia Takyiwaa-Mensah said “this is not just a chat room and we will be back – I will be bold enough to say 3-4 months, so we can continue this conversation ” .

All key stakeholders and delegates considered Phase 1 a great success and are in the process of planning Phase 2 of strengthening the Ghana-Nigeria relationship and boosting trade.
