Carroll hasn’t played much. Bakinson is the best comparison, and part of me thinks we missed there. He had a purpose in him.

McKenna’s way doesn’t suit an old-fashioned goalscorer. Norwood may have enjoyed his time under him but he spent a lot of time watching midfielders pass between them for a long time before he saw the ball go into the box. It’s good for fans to watch, but it seems to rely on the perfect goal most of the time – although that didn’t seem to be the case on Saturday with an instant shot and a long ranger, which is promising.

Agree with that. Even on Saturday we completely dominated this game and yet for the big spells I never really thought we were going to score. It just seems like the focus is on holding the ball rather than trying to get the ball into the box and score goals. I’m not sure Hirst’s signing will lead to real change, it’s more tactically something has to change.

Do I think we lack a goalscorer? Yes – and Pigott was not the answer. But I immediately refuse to sink into total panic.
