The China-Lusophone Countries Epidemic Prevention Exchange Center was established on Sunday at the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the China-Lusophone Countries Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum held in Macao on Sunday.
The center is under the Ministry of Commerce of China, the Secretariat of Economy and Finance, and the Secretariat of Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR. The executive arm of the new body is headed by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum and the Macau Health Bureau.
The center is established with the aim of “fully playing the role of Macao as a platform and supporting Portuguese-speaking countries in the fight against the pandemic, promoting cooperation in the field of public health between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries,” an official statement said.
The center is intended to provide technical support for the prevention and control of pandemics as well as to develop training programs.
“Since 2020, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has spread globally, causing a serious impact both on the economic development of countries and on global economic and trade exchanges, Portuguese-speaking countries have also been affected at different levels,” the same statement added.
