Erdoğan instructs the AK Party to organize a forum on the metaverse

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has instructed the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) to carry out work on new developments including the metaverse, cryptocurrencies and social media.
At a meeting on Tuesday, the president told his party colleagues that they should analyze the phenomenon with far-reaching implications for the future, the Hürriyet daily reported.
In particular, he instructed the AK Party to do careful work to learn more about the metaverse and organize a forum in which he would also participate. The forum would focus on details about the metaverse, cryptocurrencies, and how purchases are made on social media.
Investors have already spent millions of dollars buying virtual land on the Metaverse, a shared digital platform that uses virtual reality or augmented reality.
Issues regarding the purchase of real estate, including land and assets, such as Turkey’s historical heritage such as the House of the Virgin Mary and museums, will also be addressed as part of the work, as the staff of the party agreed that such purchases by foreigners could create problems in the future.
In December, Turkey hosted Stratcom 2021, an international gathering to address effective policies, issues, challenges and trends in the strategic communications ecosystem. The two-day summit brought together 112 speakers from over 30 countries and a distinguished audience of over 3,000 people.
Topics discussed at the summit included strategic communication, public diplomacy, digital diplomacy, metaverse, national branding, disinformation, new media, open intelligence, new communication technologies and trends, strategic marketing and political communication.
The president had previously warned that the spread of misinformation had become a global problem and was also a threat domestically.
