DVIDS – News – Warfare Centers Knowledge Forum a one-stop shop for training, seminars and other opportunities across the NAVSEA enterprise

Sally Sutherland, director of the Naval Engineering Education Consortium for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Warfare Centers, wanted a way to share the vast amounts of available educational programming, informational events and leadership learning with all members. of the NAVSEA family.

In the spring of 2021, she began developing the idea of a “university of warfare centers” wiki page, a sort of one-stop-shop for all upcoming opportunities that NAVSEA team members from diverse backgrounds could benefit from.

What eventually emerged in the summer of 2021 was the War Centers Knowledge Forum, offering a calendar of standalone and serial events presented by one of the 10 War Centers, links to upcoming business-related conferences and industry, information on university programs related to the workforce. members’ professional skills and other professional development opportunities.

The program’s slogan, “One Team: Learning Together,” encapsulates Sutherland’s vision for the project.

“We want to make the site useful, valuable and available to all War Center employees,” she said, adding that the idea is to encourage each War Center to upload their own future events and educational opportunities. that could benefit other NAVSEA commands and activities.

One example is the topic-focused mentorship program called Sessions with Shane, hosted virtually on teams, that Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division Acquisition Branch Manager Shane Guilford hosts monthly in conjunction with the Workforce Development Office. command work.

In hour-plus trainings, Guilford shares tips, tricks, and more on how best to use the Microsoft 365 suite of tools, including Flank Speed, Teams, One Drive, and more. Recently, sessions with Shane were added to the War Centers Knowledge Forum schedule so that more people at NAVSEA can benefit from his expertise.

“I have trained and mentored over 100 people in online Flank Speed courses, and about a dozen more in one-on-one sessions if they request it,” Guilford said. “I like to share what I know and help bring everyone’s level of knowledge towards a common point.
