DOST-Mimaropa organizes a hybrid forum on island green energy and the development of an eco-industrial park in Bataraza
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (DOST Mimaropa) — In a forum titled “Masterclass Series on Island Green Energy Eco-Industrial Park Development Planning: Session Two,” DOST-MIMAROPA, by through its Provincial S&T Center in Palawan, promotes the province of Palawan as a model island for green energy and eco-industrial park in the Philippines. The activity, conducted in collaboration with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and the Western Philippines University (WPU), was held on July 14, 2022 in a hybrid setup – at Brgy Municipal Lagoon. Maranggas, Bataraza, Palawan and via ZOOM.
As a Green Energy Island, Palawan will showcase and utilize cleaner, sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies and practices that will help attract investors and visitors to the province.
The second session of the said masterclass series focused on the fundamentals of green energy resource mapping, introduction to eco-industrial park development planning, fundamentals of technology management in the context Development of Eco-Industrial Parks and Palawan Island Energy Development Plan 2014-2035. It was physically attended by 13 participants from Palawan State University (PSU), WPU, Provincial Planning Office and Development (PPDO), Bataraza Municipal Planning Development Office (MPDO-Bataraza), PEZA and Bataraza Municipal Economic Enterprise Development Office (MEEDO_Bataraza); and virtually by 21 participants from WPU, Department of Energy (DOE), Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), TUP-Manila and TUP-Visayas.
The masterclass series is comprised of five (5) phases or sessions that will serve as preparation for the formulation of a project concept document for use and reference by green energy development adopters, agents and facilitators and of the eco-industrial park in the country.
The other four (4) sessions are designed for other areas of Palawan that have the potential to engage and adopt the Green Energy and Eco-Industrial Park Framework. The first session was held in El Nido on June 22, 2022. The sessions include discussions on Palawan’s geoeconomic endowments and socio-cultural characteristics, Palawan’s energy and electricity demand and supply forecasts, fundamentals of smart green energy and green energy technology management.
The third to fifth session which will strengthen strategies for promoting Palawan as a model island for green energy and the development of eco-industrial parks will be held in Puerto Princesa City and San Vicente, Palawan, from September to October. 2022. (PR)
