Barack Obama Foundation CEO to speak at free virtual event
January 2022 – Drew University will welcome Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Barack Obama Foundation, as the second guest in the Drew Forum 2021-22 speaker series.
Jarrett will talk about how she found her voice and became the longest-serving senior adviser in presidential history.

Valerie Jarrett is CEO and board member of the Barack Obama Foundation. She is also a Senior Distinguished Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School. She is the author of the New York Times bestselling book Finding My Voice: My Journey to the West Wing and the Way Forward, published April 2019. She is Chair of the Board of Civic Nation, Co-Chair of The United State of Women, and a member of the Advisory Board of One Million Black Women. Jarrett serves on the boards of directors of Walgreens Boot Alliance, Inc., Ralph Lauren Corporation, Lyft, Inc., Sweetgreen, Ariel Investments, The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, The Innocence Project, Sesame Street Workshop and the Economic Club of Chicago. Jarrett is also a member of the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women Advisory Board and is a senior advisor to ATTN.
Ms. Jarrett served as President Barack Obama’s senior advisor from 2009 to 2017, making her the longest-serving senior advisor in history. She oversaw the offices of public engagement and intergovernmental affairs and chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls. Ms. Jarrett has worked throughout her tenure in the White House to mobilize elected officials, business and community leaders and various advocacy groups. She led the Obama administration’s efforts to expand and strengthen access to the middle class and stimulate American businesses and our economy. She has championed the creation of equality and opportunity for all Americans, and the economic and political empowerment of women in the United States and around the world. She oversaw the administration’s advocacy for workplace policies that empower working families, including equal pay, increased minimum wages, paid time off, paid sick leave, flexible workplace and affordable child care, and led campaigns to reform our criminal justice system, end sexual assault. , and reduce gun violence.
Ms. Jarrett has experience in both the public and private sectors. She was CEO of The Habitat Company in Chicago, Planning and Development Commissioner for the City of Chicago, Deputy Chief of Staff to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, and practiced law for ten years in the Sectors private and public.
