CSUB 2022 President’s Forum Covers Important Topics

California State University Bakersfield hosted a Presidential Forum with President Lynnette Zelezny and other CSUB faculty on Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

During the meeting, many topics were discussed. The first thing that was covered was updates from the president.

Zelezny briefly mentioned the resignation of Chancellor Castro. Additionally, COVID-19 protocols have been covered, there will be daily self-screening, vaccinations and boosters, as well as the wearing of face masks.

“CSUB is heading to the Big West Conference Championships for men’s and women’s basketball next week,” according to Zelezny.

Zelezny said that “we look forward to in-person graduate students you will start on Friday, May 20 and undergraduate students, there will be two ceremonies on Saturday, May 21.”

Vice President Dr. Vernon Harper covered Academic Affairs, Harper spoke about the next campus visit will be Institutional Research. Harper reviewed the Data initiative, “the first of these dashboards will be ready this quarter” according to the CSUB.

In addition, the School Evaluation Exploratory Committee has met and is expecting results by the end of this quarter. The WASC visit will take place in the spring of 2023, more information will be given by Dr Jackson.

Harper also spoke about how there will be a diversity cluster hire for fall 2023, this initiative will be the first campus hire specifically on diversity. Student Affairs was covered by Dr. Thomas Wallace, YOU at CSUB is an online wellness program. The program is a 24-hour availability program for students. Nicole Halcomb spoke about the program and how it helps students in many ways. The program offers resources you can contact for different things such as sleep issues, crisis work, stress management and more.

In addition to help from this program, other resources are available, such as the Runners Scholars mentorship program. It is between faculty, staff and students. Using this program, mentoring roles are assigned to mentees twice per semester, meeting other mentors on campus.

Commercial and administrative services were covered and one of the topics was updating facilities.

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund will be distributed to students by mid-March. According to the CSUB, the funding received was $80.6 million. On February 9, 2022, the Governor extended SB 114 for additional paid sick leave through September 30, 2022. This will provide 40 hours for certain COVID-19-related reasons, and an additional 40 hours with a doctor’s note for immediate family who has positive Covid cases or even an employee. The daily amount that can be paid to an employee does not exceed $511 per day.
