Brookline for Racial Justice and Equity to Host Candidates Forum

BROOKLINE, MA – Brookline for Racial Justice and Equity (ROJE) will host the 2022 Racial Justice Candidates Forum on Monday, April 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The moderators of the event will be BRJE’s Emy Takinami and Kimberley Richardson, who will pose a series of questions to candidates for public office at Brookline. Their questions will push candidates to deepen their understanding of their own experiences and policy proposals.

“In recent days, students of the African American and Latino Scholars Program (AALSP)
wrote a blatant condemnation of the school administration’s handling of racial slurs
incidents,” BRJE said in a press release. “Angry and upset, the students left the school. The school committee held a meeting yesterday to discuss all of this where many members of the community expressed outrage and disappointment.”

“Brookline is in crisis,” they continued. “Brookline residents are looking for leaders to face this moment.”

Candidates participating in the forum include Michael Sandman, candidate for the board of trustees, and Helen Charlupski, Steven Ehrenberg, Valerie Frias and Nancy Rhei Rorer, candidates for the school council.

Brookline’s annual municipal election will be held on Tuesday, May 3. The last day to register to vote in this election is Wednesday, April 13 at 8 p.m. and the last day to request absenteeism
voting is Wednesday, April 27 at 5 p.m. by mail or Monday, May 2 at 12 p.m. in person.
