Asia Foundation to launch Leather Development Forum in Bangladesh

A Leather Development Forum (LDF) is set to be launched today in Bangladesh by The Asia Foundation to develop the country’s tanning sector. The aim is to ensure that all interventions in the leather sector are as effective and sustainable as possible; create synergy; maintain better coordination and collaboration; and avoid duplication between various organizations.

The Asia Foundation consulted German development agency GIZ to set up the platform, according to Bangladeshi media.

In 2018, the foundation began implementing a project to promote decent work and acceptable working conditions in the tanning industry.

The project focuses on tannery management, supervisors and workers on tannery internal waste management, occupational health and safety, chemical management, pre-treatment facility and waste recycling solid.

As part of the project Promoting Decent Work and Acceptable Working Conditions in the Tannery Sector in Bangladesh, the foundation approached organizations working in the leather sector to become part of the LDF, and most accepted. .
